Maya is a wonderful application. But it lacks some features such as Architectural pre-sets, Mograph modules etc. as compared to other popular 3d application. After the long wait Maya have the Architecture and design material pre-sets with in it. It is known as Mia material and mia material X. These materials include nice pre-set for Chrome, Rubber, physical glass, copper etc. I think you already explored it.

Creating Animated Iris Diaphragm in Camera Tutorial
In this tutorial we are going to model and animate an Iris diaphragm which is seen in camera and microscope. Though this tutorial is meant for Maya any 3d design software can produce the similar result by following this tutorial, but some steps may vary accordingly. Before jumping in to your 3d programs just go through the tutorial and do it later.

Create and morph extruded 3d map in to a globe
Maya is not only used for animated movies and special effects but also for Motion graphics works. For Motion graphics you have to create 3d maps and globe once in a while. During my motion graphics career I have to face the same problem several times. Each time I have tried different ways and never satisfied with the result. I used Displacement maps, sphere with transparent maps etc. They served the purpose but not the satisfactory look.

Treating JPEG/PNG/BMP/TIFF/TARGA as RAW in Photoshop
It is the era of Digital Photography.Almost everyone is a photographer. Most of them own a Digital Camera (dslr, mirrorless, point and shot etc) or a decent mobile phone (iphone/android/Samsung/Nokia etc). Surprisingly 50% photos are edited in Photoshop. Does we are using Photoshop to its full potential?

Photo realistic Brilliant Cut Diamond in Maya
Hi friends,Rendering a realistic looking diamond in Maya is little bit trickier. In this tutorial I have used Mental ray for rendering but used default Blinn material for shading.I didn't used any lights, caustics,HDR map, final gather or global illumination for this scene. The final glow is achieved by After effects. In after effects I used Default glow because I want to show with in our limit we can make some thing good like this.

Create a glossy film reel decor with ramp-Maya tutorial
In this long tutorial I am dealing with some texture and shader effect to achieve the nice glossy looking film reel decor. For motion graphics the film roll is very essential. So I think this tutorial will be helpful for you people. The animation of the rolling is achieve by deformers.
Ramp is the king of texture utilities in Maya. You can create a wide variety of texture effects with combining different ramp.

Getting occlusion of alpha mapped objects in Maya
Getting occlusion with Maya is very easy. We have to do is simply set render layers and applying the occlusion pre-set. After we have to tweak the quality, spread and maximum distance etc. By pressing the render button we will get a nice occlusion output. If you don’t know the procedures just go through my previous tutorial about Render Pass in Maya
But the problem arises when we have some alpha mapped object such as trees. The problem is that the final output lacks

Effect pre-sets in 3Ds Max
Have ever heard about the effect pre-sets in 3Ds Max? Honestly speaking I didn’t till I saw this article.
http://area.autodesk.com/blogs/garyd/over_100_free_particle_flow_presets
But it is not matured as Maya’s effect pre-set. But you can definitely give a try if you do 3Ds Max and want to learn the Dynamics in 3Ds Max.
Download the pre-sets here.

ncloth Tutorial-Shattering a Glass
Ncloth is a very powerful tool in Maya. It is not only used to do clothing but also doing special kind of effects. Some great rigid body dynamics can be achieved through ncloth dynamics very easily. If you set up things correctly you can do a very big amount of rigid body dynamics with Maya ncloth without compromising the quality. We already did some nice ncloth effects early.
